Pond Paddock 2006 Hawks Flight Pinot Noir

Our pinot noir fruit was hand picked between April 9 and 15 at an average of 24.5 brix, then 100% destemmed into 4 small open fermenters. We used 4 clones for this wine: Abel, 667, 114, and 5. The average time for the total period on skids was 22 days, including a 6 day cold soak period. The ferments were hand plunged and then gently basket pressed into French oak. {30% new} and left for 11 months before bottling.

Alcohol: 14.5%
PH: 3.6
TA: 6

Tasting notes by Kenneth Christie MW

Lovely, genuine Pinot Noir colour, quite rich and more darkly concentrated than most Burgundian Pinot Noir. The nose is delightful, initially quite pungent then followed by sweet raspberry and soft fruit, not punishingly powerful, but balanced and quite elegant. I enjoyed the palate. It is nicely spicy, has a good bite of alcohol that gives it structure, but balanced by some attractively furry, rustic tannins that hold on to the fruit flavours into a good lengthy finish.
